Suzuki, the renowned motorcycle manufacturer, has announced the upcoming launch of the V-Strom 800RE, an addition to its adventure bike lineup. This new model will complement the recently introduced V-Strom 800DE and offer adventure enthusiasts a more road-focused option.
Scheduled to hit the market in November, the V-Strom 800RE will be available with an on-the-road (OTR) price tag of £9,699.
Power and Performance
Under the hood, the V-Strom 800RE shares the same robust 776cc parallel twin engine as its sibling, the V-Strom 800DE. This powerplant boasts a double overhead cam and a 270° crankshaft design, delivering ample torque across the rev range, peaking at 78Nm at 6800rpm. It also exhibits the signature rumble and character reminiscent of Suzuki’s legendary V-twin engines, offering a peak power output of 84.3PS at 8500rpm.
Chassis and Wheels
The V-Strom 800RE maintains the same steel main frame as the 800DE, engineered for a harmonious blend of straight-line stability and agile handling. Its narrow steel tubes maximize fuel tank capacity, providing a generous 20-liter tank. Notable distinctions include the choice of 19” and 17” cast aluminum wheels with Dunlop tubeless tires, in contrast to the 800DE’s 21” and 17” spoked wheels with tubed tires.
Suspension and Brakes
Showa provides high-quality suspension components for the V-Strom 800RE, prioritizing on-road performance. The motorcycle offers 150mm of suspension travel at both the front and rear, courtesy of preload-adjustable inverted front forks and a link-type monoshock adjustable for preload and rebound damping. This configuration ensures confident road handling and a comfortable ride for long journeys. Braking power is delivered by radially-mounted four-piston Nissin calipers.
Comfort and Ergonomics
The V-Strom 800RE positions itself as the ideal tool for all-road exploration with a rider-friendly seat height of 825mm. Furthermore, aluminum, rubber-covered footpegs are set 14mm further rearward and 7mm higher compared to the 800DE, while aluminum tapered handlebars are 13mm lower and 23mm further forward, making for a more comfortable riding posture. A taller and wider windscreen enhances weather and wind protection during extended rides.
Technology and Electronics
Beneath the windscreen, riders will find a 5” color TFT screen with dual display modes for day and nighttime riding. A user-friendly rocker switch on the left-hand handlebar allows easy navigation through menus and features. The bike is equipped with a convenient USB port on the left side. The screen provides essential information, including the selected traction control mode (with three options, including the ability to turn it off), power mode (offering Active, Basic, and Comfort settings), and two ABS settings for varied intervention levels.
Additional Features
The V-Strom 800RE features a ride-by-wire throttle system for a natural feel and rear-wheel connection. It also includes a standard-fit bi-directional quickshifter with a slipper clutch for seamless gear changes. Suzuki’s low rpm assist and easy start function further enhance the riding experience.
Aesthetic Appeal
Sporting a design inspired by the iconic DR Big, the V-Strom 800RE retains the distinctive beak and features full LED lighting both at the front and rear. Buyers can choose from three striking color options: Pearl Vigor Blue, Metallic Matt Steel Green, and Glass Sparkle Black.
