Casio Computer Co., Ltd. has unveiled its latest collection of shock-resistant watches under the G-SHOCK brand, marking a significant collaboration with the Charles Darwin Foundation. This partnership seeks to champion environmental conservation efforts in the renowned Galápagos Islands.
The Charles Darwin Foundation, an esteemed international nonprofit organization, stands dedicated to preserving the natural ecosystems of the Galápagos Islands. Their multifaceted work involves comprehensive surveys of both marine and terrestrial life, along with proactive initiatives aimed at bolstering conservation efforts across the islands. This recent venture with G-SHOCK represents the second collaboration between the two entities, with their inaugural partnership dating back to 1999.
The newly introduced GW-B5600CD shock-resistant watches boast designs inspired by the diverse array of creatures inhabiting the Galápagos Islands, coupled with the lush natural landscapes that serve as their habitats. Built upon the foundation of the GW-B5600 model renowned for its radio wave reception and Tough Solar charging capabilities, these watches feature bezels and bands crafted from bio-based resin derived from renewable organic resources.
Each of the three unique watches showcases a distinctive design motif on its face: the GW-B5600CD-1A2 depicts a hammerhead shark in its oceanic habitat, the GW-B5600CD-1A3 features a Darwin’s finch amid the Scalesia forest – one of its preferred environments, and the GW-B5600CD-9 highlights a Galápagos giant tortoise in its rocky habitat. When the backlight is activated, silhouettes of these featured creatures illuminate the LCD.
Further emphasizing the collaboration, the Charles Darwin Foundation’s logo is elegantly engraved on the case back, and a band inscription in Spanish, translating to “I support Galápagos conservation,” serves as a visible statement. Importantly, a portion of the proceeds generated from the sale of these watches will contribute directly to supporting the foundation’s ongoing conservation initiatives.
