The first commemorative watch in this anniversary collection is a faithful recreation of the original Seiko 5 Sports watch that caused a sensation during its time and continues to be highly sought-after in today’s vintage market. With its dial, bezel, and 39.5mm case meticulously crafted to transport us back to the exciting early days of Seiko 5 Sports, this timepiece is a true testament to the brand’s heritage. The legendary Seiko 5 Sports logo from yesteryears proudly adorns the 12 o’clock position, while the word “SPORTS” is elegantly displayed at 6 o’clock. Enhanced legibility in low-light conditions is ensured by Lumibrite, applied to the hands and bar indexes. The newly designed solid bracelet pays homage to the original, perfectly encapsulating the essence of the Seiko 5 Sports story. Accompanying this remarkable watch is a special box featuring the same logo and color scheme as its predecessor.
Limited Availability and Worldwide Release
The Seiko 5 Sports 55th Anniversary Limited Edition, re-creating the first 5 Sports watch, will be exclusively available from July 2023 onwards at Seiko Boutiques and select retail partners worldwide. The celebration of Seiko 5 Sports’ 55th anniversary extends further with three watches in the SKX Sports Style, honoring the iconic 1969 Seiko 5 Sports collection. These timepieces not only embody the renowned reliability and durability of Seiko 5 Sports but also reflect the diverse looks and designs that made the 1969 collection so popular. Each special edition watch, available with a silver, black, or orange and black dial, features a bezel insert inspired by the original design from 1969. The watches are encased in the legendary SKX case, characterized by its iconic shape, crown protectors, and unidirectional rotating bezel. To complete the classic homage, each watch comes with a three-link stainless steel bracelet.
