In a dazzling debut at the Rallye Monte Carlo, TOYOTA GAZOO Racing (TGR) presented the world premiere of two special-edition vehicles based on the acclaimed GR Yaris. The GR Yaris RZ “High-Performance Sébastien Ogier Edition” (Ogier Edition) and the GR Yaris RZ “High-Performance Kalle Rovanperä Edition” (Rovanperä Edition) took center stage as part of the first round of the 2024 FIA World Rally Championship (WRC).
Limited Editions with Rallying Pedigree
These limited editions, set to be sold through a lottery system in Japan starting this spring, are planned to have a production cap of just 100 units each. Building on the success of the GR Yaris, both the Ogier Edition and Rovanperä Edition were crafted under the supervision of TOYOTA GAZOO Racing World Rally Team (TGR-WRT) members Sébastien Ogier and Kalle Rovanperä, adding a touch of rally pedigree to these exclusive vehicles.
Acknowledging Rally Excellence
The special editions were born out of Chairman Akio Toyoda’s vision to express gratitude to the drivers, teams, organizers, and fans who contribute to the rallying world. With Sébastien Ogier boasting eight WRC drivers’ titles and Kalle Rovanperä securing consecutive wins in 2022 and 2023, these editions pay homage to the excellence and dedication exhibited in the world of rally racing.
Unique Features and Personal Touches
Last year’s concepts at the Tokyo Auto Salon 2023 laid the groundwork for these special editions, with feedback from both drivers incorporated into various aspects, including interior and exterior changes and 4WD control. TOYOTA GAZOO Racing goes beyond the conventional as they plan special-experience programs for the fortunate purchasers of these limited editions, inviting them to be a part of the WRC excitement.
GR Yaris Overview
New 4WD Control Modes
Exclusive to the Ogier and Rovanperä Editions are new 4WD control modes, replacing the “GRAVEL” and “TRACK” modes found in the standard GR Yaris. These modes are designed to enhance the driving experience, providing a rally-inspired feel for enthusiasts.
The Ogier Edition features a newly developed lightweight rally spoiler made of Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic (CFRP), while the Rovanperä Edition boasts the same CFRP variable-wing rear spoiler as the GRMN Yaris. These additions contribute to improved aerodynamic characteristics, elevating the performance of these special-edition vehicles.
Striking Exterior Finishes
Distinguishing itself with a new matte color named “Matte Stealth Gray,” the Ogier Edition exudes a subtle yet powerful presence. On the other hand, the Rovanperä Edition showcases a three-tone paint scheme, meticulously applied to mirror the design of Rovanperä’s rally helmet, achieving vibrant colors without the use of wraps or adhesive sheets.
WRC victory commemorative decals adorn the left and right front fenders of both editions, celebrating the drivers’ remarkable achievements in the WRC drivers’ title. The steering wheel stitch color pays homage to the drivers’ home countries, with French colors for Ogier and Finnish colors for Rovanperä. An exclusive plate commemorating TGR’s WRC victory takes pride of place on the instrument panel in front of the passenger seat, adding a touch of exclusivity to these limited editions.
Join the Rally Excitement
With these special editions, TOYOTA GAZOO Racing not only introduces high-performance vehicles but also invites a select few to be part of the rallying experience. The anticipation builds as the lotteries for the Ogier and Rovanperä Editions are set to commence this spring at GR Garage locations nationwide, marking a unique opportunity for enthusiasts to own a piece of WRC-inspired automotive excellence.
