In a nod to its illustrious history and the visionary spirit of its founder, Seiko prepares to mark a significant milestone as it approaches the 100th anniversary of the debut of its iconic wristwatch bearing the name “Seiko” on the dial. To kick off the celebratory journey, Seiko introduces a new addition to its prestigious Presage collection, paying homage to this historic event in watchmaking.
This forthcoming timepiece boasts an intricately designed case back adorned with the recognizable trademark “S,” originally registered by the founder, Kintaro Hattori, in 1900. Positioned just above the trademark, Hattori’s name and his timeless quote encapsulating the brand’s philosophy are proudly displayed, honoring the visionary ethos that has steered Seiko since its inception in 1881.
Crafted with meticulous attention to detail, the watch faithfully resurrects the form and essence of the original timepiece. The round case and distinct box-shaped sapphire crystal are thoughtfully fashioned to retain the elegance and authenticity of the inaugural design. Embodying historical significance, even the crown of the timepiece proudly carries the trademark “S.”
At the 12 o’clock position, the Seiko logo is presented in a typeface reminiscent of the era when the brand made its debut, evoking a nostalgic aura. The incorporation of Arabic numerals pays homage to the original model, blending thick and slender lines to create a bold and dynamic font. Powering this homage is the innovative Caliber 6R5H, featuring a 24-hour sub-dial positioned at six o’clock, aligning with modern functionality while honoring the past.
Mirroring the craftsmanship of the 1924 original, the watch boasts an exquisite enamel dial, a testament to the artistry and skill of master craftsman Mitsuru Yokosawa and his team specializing in enamel production. This technique ensures a striking white appearance that promises enduring beauty for years to come. Adding to the vintage allure are the retro-styled blue hands set against the pristine white enamel dial.
The watch’s design incorporates movable lugs and a pull-through leather strap reminiscent of the era of its predecessor’s release. Painstakingly crafted to meet contemporary standards of comfort and durability, the strap is made from leather sourced from a tannery certified by the Leather Working Group.
Included within the watch box is a special pin badge adorned with the same trademark “S” that Kintaro Hattori registered in 1900 as a symbol of the Seikosha factory, serving as an additional tribute to the brand’s rich heritage.
