IWC’s Limited Aquatimer Watches: Inspired by ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom

In a thrilling collaboration with Warner Bros. Picture’s upcoming blockbuster, “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom,” renowned Swiss luxury watchmaker IWC Schaffhausen has unveiled an exceptional timepiece: the Aquatimer Perpetual Calendar Digital Date-Month. This dive watch, drawing inspiration from the vibrant red and blue glowing prop watches featured in the film, is an ode to precision engineering and sleek design.

Limited Edition

Limited to just 25 pieces each, this exclusive release comes in two variations. Sporting imposing 49-millimeter Ceratanium® cases, both versions boast striking black dials and black rubber straps. One edition showcases red Super-LumiNova® accents on the dial, hands, and inner rotating bezel, while the other gleams with blue Super-LumiNova® details.

The technical prowess of these timepieces is nothing short of exceptional. Featuring a perpetual calendar with a digital date and month display and a chronograph function, these watches house the IWC-manufactured 89802 caliber, visible through the sapphire crystal back.

Black Manta and Dr. Stephen Shin

For those eagerly anticipating the film’s release, the connection between IWC’s experimental division XPL, and the movie is intriguing. The prop watches, illuminating red or blue in the hands of the villains Black Manta and Dr. Stephen Shin, played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Randall Park respectively, have inspired these limited-edition additions to IWC’s Aquatimer collection.

The Super-LumiNova® compound embedded in the watches utilizes phosphorescence, effectively storing light energy and emitting a vivid glow in low-light conditions, whether underwater or in darkness.

IWC x Aquaman

The Ceratanium® material used in crafting these timepieces is a fusion of titanium’s lightweight properties with ceramic-like hardness and scratch resistance. Meticulously designed and finished, the case components undergo a high-temperature firing process, endowing them with both durability and a distinctive color.

The standout feature of these watches lies in their perpetual calendar functionality, displaying the date and month digitally for effortless readability. Programmed to account for varying month lengths and leap years, this complication showcases mechanical precision at its finest.

Aquatimer Perpetual Calendar Digital Date-Month

Moreover, the IWC Safedive system integrated into the Aquatimer Perpetual Calendar Digital Date-Month ensures diver safety by facilitating easy tracking of dive times and preventing accidental adjustments that could compromise safety underwater.

“Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” is set in an imaginative world, blending reality with fantasy, where every detail matters. The choice to adorn the characters with these technical, underwater watches that glow in vibrant red and blue underlines the collaboration’s seamless blend of horology and storytelling.
