Jordan Brand has announced the release of the Tatum 1, the first signature shoe of NBA player Jayson Tatum. The Tatum 1 was designed to cater to the needs of the next generation of basketball players and is the lightest shoe in Jordan Brand’s performance line for this season.
The shoe was created based on Tatum’s desire to have a shoe that feels more connected to his foot. It features a lightweight, strong TPU frame, wrapped in ground-contact foam that also serves as an integrated traction pattern. The shoe has minimal rubber on the toe and ball of the foot, which complements Tatum’s predominantly forefoot game. The reduced weight of the shoe and the tight court feel were achieved by this feature. The shoe also features a large, uncaged Zoom Air bag in the forefoot that provides high energy return without sacrificing court feel. Additionally, the mesh knit upper is strong yet lightweight, and the collar is padded for ankle support.
Jayson Tatum wanted his fans to feel connected to him, and so he designed the Tatum 1 as a bridge between him and his fans. Tatum wanted kids to have an easy time wearing the shoe, so the Jordan Brand design team created a kids-specific design that includes an innovative, injected TPU tailgate system that helps with easy entry.
The Tatum 1 comes with specialized tooling that includes zonal rubber on the outsole with deeper grooves for durability. The tooling removes the forefoot Zoom Air bag to provide a more comfortable feel for kids.
Jordan Brand will release the Tatum 1 in full family sizing on April 7, along with an apparel collection inspired by the Zoo and Barbershop colorways of the shoe. The apparel collection includes hoodies and tees for men, women, and kids.
