The New Member of The Leica Q Family: Leica Q3

Leica Camera AG has recently unveiled its highly anticipated third-generation camera in the successful Leica Q family: the Leica Q3. With its exceptional craftsmanship, timeless design, and user-friendly operation, this fixed focal length full-frame camera is a standout choice for photographers, creatives, and even those in front of the camera. Offering perfect photo and video results, an impressive lens, and a host of new features, the Leica Q3 represents a significant leap forward in this unique camera segment.

Superior Image Quality and Resolution

At the core of the Leica Q3 lies the groundbreaking BSI-CMOS sensor featuring Triple-Resolution Technology. This sensor offers resolutions of 60, 36, or 18 megapixels, enabling the creation of raw images in DNG format or stunning processed JPEG files straight out of the camera. With its ability to capture the finest details and structures, shooting at 60 MP is a photographer’s dream. Opting for 36 or 18 MP allows for faster operation, extended image sequences, and smaller file sizes. The Leica Q3 utilizes the entire sensor area for all resolutions and boasts a sensitivity range of ISO 50 to 100,000, thanks to the latest Maestro Series processor with L2 Technology, ensuring exceptional performance.

Exceptional Lens and Versatile Focal Lengths

The Leica Q3 features the fast Leica Summilux 28 mm f/1.7 ASPH. lens, which is an optical masterpiece in its construction. This lens not only delivers outstanding image quality but also incorporates an integrated macro mode, allowing for impressive close-up shots from a minimum focusing distance of 17 cm. Additionally, the camera offers an extended digital zoom that enables users to achieve focal lengths of 28, 35, 50, 75, and now even 90 mm. To enhance the shooting experience, the Leica Q3 introduces two practical assistants: Leica Perspective Control (LPC) and Leica Dynamic Range (LDR), ensuring perfect JPEG images without the need for extensive post-processing.

Enhanced Autofocus System

The autofocus system of the Leica Q3 has undergone significant advancements. The introduction of a new hybrid autofocus system with phase detection technology ensures rapid and precise focusing and tracking of objects. Alongside the high-precision contrast autofocus, the DFD system, and phase detection autofocus, intelligent subject recognition further enhances the capture of sharp and brilliant images. The camera’s new 5.76 MP OLED viewfinder displays these images with exceptional clarity.

Intuitive Touchscreen and Enhanced Connectivity

With a new tiltable 3-inch high-resolution touchscreen and a high-quality tilting mechanism, the Leica Q3 offers unique viewing angles and provides photographers with creative opportunities when capturing photos and videos. Despite the movable display, the camera retains its IP52 certification, protecting against dust and spray water. Furthermore, the Leica Q3 features seamless connectivity via Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, enabling users to transfer files quickly and easily to the Leica FOTOS app. The camera’s advanced MIMO technology increases transfer speeds by up to 10 times compared to its predecessor, revolutionizing the mobile creative workflow. Users can now import ‘Leica Looks’ for beautiful JPEG images or effortlessly load videos from the camera to a smartphone. The Leica Q3 offers various connection modes, optimizing the mobile workflow and energy management.

Unleashing Creativity with Video Capabilities

Designed to meet the needs of content creators, the Leica Q3 allows for recording videos in stunning 8K resolution, utilizing highly efficient codecs like H.265 and Apple’s ProRes. It offers direct connections to external devices, including gimbals, power banks, and display recorders through USB-C and HDMI ports. The camera also supports tethered shooting with Capture One or the Adobe Lightroom plug-in, expanding its applications within the realm of compact digital cameras.

Effortless Wireless Charging and Customizable Accessories

The Leica Q3 introduces the convenience of wireless charging through the use of the Leica Charging Pad and a separate camera handgrip. The stylish charging pad facilitates the recharging of the powerful BC-SCL6 battery of the Q3, as well as other Qi-compatible devices. Moreover, users can personalize their camera’s look with a range of accessories, including leather protectors, lens caps, retro-look lens hoods, thumb rests, soft-release buttons, and flash shoe covers, available in three different color variations.
