In anticipation of the highly anticipated America’s Cup in Barcelona in 2024, OMEGA has unveiled a special edition timepiece, the Seamaster Planet Ocean Deep Black ETNZ Edition, paying homage to the defending champions, Emirates Team New Zealand. This exclusive watch was launched during OMEGA’s prestigious event at the preliminary Regatta in Vilanova.
With just a year left until the Auckland-based crew strives to retain the world’s oldest sporting trophy, OMEGA has drawn design inspiration from the iconic sail of the ETNZ logo to create a truly unique America’s Cup collector’s item.
Raynald Aeschlimann, OMEGA’s President and CEO, expressed his admiration for both the watch and the crew that inspired its creation. “Much like our friends from Emirates Team New Zealand, time flies by quickly. This race-ready timepiece not only performs exceptionally but also serves as a fitting tribute to the talented crew and their nation.”
The Seamaster Planet Ocean, measuring 45.5 mm, elegantly combines deep black with the signature turquoise of the Emirates Team New Zealand logo.
Enhancing the black ceramic case is a unidirectional bezel crafted from brushed black ceramic, featuring a white enamel diving scale and a prominently marked dot at 12 o’clock, which is adorned with white Super-LumiNova, providing a green luminescent glow in the dark.
The matte ceramic dial incorporates a nod to pre-race traditions with a COUNTDOWN INDICATOR located at 3 o’clock, complete with a flagged START signal. The indicator’s hand and subdial ring are rendered in the iconic Emirates Team New Zealand turquoise, which is also featured on the minute track, the number 12, and the central seconds chronograph hand, accentuated by the America’s Cup trophy counterweight. This vibrant turquoise extends to the rings of the brushed black ceramic pushers, the “He” on the helium escape valve, and the OMEGA logo on the crown.
In a gesture of respect to the Kiwi crew, the NAIAD LOCK caseback proudly showcases the Emirates Team New Zealand logo, featuring a turquoise fern and white lettering. The timepiece is powered by OMEGA’s Master Chronometer Calibre 9900.
Presented on a structured rubber strap in black and turquoise, highlighted by turquoise stitching and a black ceramic clasp, the watch offers versatility with three interchangeable options: an additional rubber strap and two NATO straps, all in coordinating colors.
To ensure the safety and preservation of this exceptional sailing watch while on dry land, OMEGA offers a specially designed presentation box inspired by the Emirates Team New Zealand logo.
