Viewpoint Vaulalia
Located in the hillside of a small village on the west coast of Norway, Viewpoint Vaulalia is a tiny retreat and gathering place overlooking the picturesque surroundings of the close by landscape. The clients, who run a Christmas tree farm on the grounds, wished a small building for having their industry meetings and presentations and at different times act as a more personal place for prayers and contemplation.
An expressive wooden construction is placed on a concrete slab that’s rigorously poised and partially cantilevered on the top of a small ridge in the mountainside, with panoramic views to 3 sides. With a pointy roof that tilts in two instructions, the building makes an expressive kind that echoes the form of the mountains surrounding the building in a graphical and stylized approach. Large sliding glass panels that may be opened to 1 side lets the building take the view and contemporary air all the best way into the interior, which homes a built-in bench, a daybed, and a fireplace.
In front of the building, there’s a triangular depression in the concrete slab with a specifically tailored Accoya wooden bench and a fireplace/barbecue in the middle. The function is impressed by the traditional African boma, an enclosed construction for gatherings with natural protection in opposition to the outside. The lowered position of this area makes it potential to benefit from the undisturbed view of the landscape from contained in the building even when the boma is occupied.
The shopper can be a glass artist and she wished to include a few of her art in the new building. Three coloured glass panels depicting the gospel of Christ have been created by the ancient technique of glass fusing, contributing to an additional narrative to the place.
