PUMA is introducing the next-generation Slipstream sneaker for 2023, which pays tribute to the brand’s basketball legacy of the 80s. The Slipstream New Lux is a reinvented court classic that retains the performance DNA of its predecessor. With a clean design and a two-tone colorway, this fresh evolution of the Slipstream showcases materials, shapes, and accents.
The new Slipstream features a tonal color scheme that creates a refined look, with a smooth leather upper in a complementary sand hue. Tacked stitching appears subtly on the upper and the leather tongue badge, giving the shoe a hand-finished feel.
The original PUMA Slipstream was launched in 1987 as a high-top basketball shoe to replace the SKY LX. It was designed as a performance model for serious players, and its innovative material makeups were adorned with embellishments like faux snakeskin, leather, and faux fur.
In 2002, PUMA introduced retro Slipstream models like the Slipstream Snake and Slipstream Beast to the Japanese market, satisfying demand for eye-catching designs that were popular at the time. Special made-in-Japan versions and collectible editions were subsequently created. In 2022, PUMA brought back Slipstream to celebrate its 35th anniversary.
