New Balance has collaborated with Shohei Ohtani, the Major League Baseball American League MVP and 2023 World Baseball Classic Champion and MVP, to create a custom baseball glove designed to meet his specific requirements.
Wilson, a renowned glove manufacturer, and New Balance worked together to develop the unique design. Wilson Master Glove Craftsman Shigeaki Aso, who has 40 years of experience in the industry, partnered with Shohei to create the glove. Shohei’s custom New Balance glove is modeled on the A2K® line of gloves made in Japan, with a tan Pro Stock® Select Leather and Double Palm Construction to meet the demands of a generational athlete.
The outfielder’s glove has longer fingers, a wider pocket, and a closed web design that meets the requirements of a pitcher. The use of Wilson SuperSkin™, a lightweight, water-resistant material along the thumb and wrist, reduces the weight of the glove and enhances durability. A tailored wrist strap ensures a secure fit, while the inclusion of high-grade wool inserts in the thumb and pinky provides increased stiffness. The palm liner has also been modified to improve grip and limit movement on the hand.
