Leica, the renowned German camera manufacturer, has launched a new watch collection, inspired by the release of the Leica M11 Monochrom camera. The Leica Watch Monochrom Edition pays homage to the fundamental principles of black and white photography: contrast and light. The collection comprises two models, the Leica ZM 1 and Leica ZM 2, both of which feature a minimalist design with black rhodium-plated, diamond cut, sandblasted indices, and hands, milled from a solid block of high-strength aluminum for shock resistance.
The Monochrom Edition’s design language removes all color and silver tones except for the red dot, providing a unique look. The Monochrom Edition watch strap is made of thick, strong-grained, black calf leather, identical in texture to the M11 Monochrom camera, crafted with a cut-edge construction and hand-stitching to support the sturdy, yet refined look of the watch. The watch collection features a mechanical, hand-wound movement developed and produced in-house, with the “ZM” in the collection name standing for “Zeitmesser,” German for an instrument that measures and displays time.
Launched in February 2022, the Leica Watch Collection immediately became a valuable asset for Leica enthusiasts and watch lovers. Following this success, the ZM collection is expanding to include the Monochrom Edition, available in up to 25 Leica stores worldwide.
Leica’s reputation for engineering excellence and timeless design is evident in the Leica ZM. It offers unconventional solutions to classic timekeeping functions, such as a patented push-crown that stops the movement, resets the second’s hand to zero, and enables easy time-setting with a simple push. The Leica ZM 2 has an additional feature as a GMT watch (Greenwich Mean Time), which allows the wearer to read two time zones with a single set of hands.
