Fujifilm X-S20 Mirrorless Digital Camera

FUJIFILM North America Corporation has unveiled its latest mirrorless digital camera, the FUJIFILM X-S20. Building upon the success of its predecessor, the X-S10, the X-S20 introduces innovative features such as AI-based subject-detection autofocus (AF), the ability to record 6.2K/30P video, and seamless 4K/60P video streaming via USB-C.

Lisa Baxt, the marketing director of the Electronic Imaging Division at FUJIFILM North America Corporation, expressed excitement about the X-S20’s capabilities, stating that it is a dream camera for content creators looking to elevate their photography and videography. Baxt highlighted the camera’s superior image quality, advanced portability, and versatility in catering to various image creation styles, from casual self-portraits to professional-grade content. Notably, the camera’s streaming feature does not require any additional fees, making it an attractive option for platforms like Twitch.

Fujifilm X-S20 Mirrorless Digital Camera Key Features

High Image Quality and Advanced AF:
The X-S20 is equipped with a back-illuminated 26.1MP sensor called “X-Transâ„¢ CMOS 4” and the powerful image processing engine “X-Processor 5.” This combination ensures high-quality images while optimizing power consumption compared to its predecessor. The camera incorporates AI technology for subject-detection AF, enabling precise tracking of animals, birds, vehicles, and other objects. The improved AF prediction algorithm ensures stable focusing, even in AF-C mode. Additionally, the AUTO mode now includes an AUTO Subject Detection function, automatically tracking and maintaining focus on subjects for effortless stills and videos.

Lightweight Design with Extended Battery Life:
Despite its lightweight and compact form factor, weighing just 1.08 lbs. (491g), the X-S20 features the signature large grip found in the X-S series, providing reliable handheld stability. The camera utilizes the NP-W235 high-capacity battery, doubling the number of frames in Economy Mode to approximately 800 compared to the previous X-S10 model. Furthermore, the X-S20 incorporates a five-axis in-body image stabilization (IBIS) mechanism, offering up to 7.0 stops of stabilization for handheld shooting, even in low-light conditions. The camera boasts a 2.36-million-dot Electronic Viewfinder (EVF) with 0.62x magnification and a 1.84-million-dot vari-angle rear LCD monitor, facilitating easy self-portraits and vlogging. It can also be paired with the FUJIFILM Tripod Grip, TG-BT1, for enhanced vlog production.

Enhanced Video Capabilities:
The X-S20 supports 6.2K/30P 4:2:2 10-bit video recording internally and provides extensive video functions, including high-speed 1080/240P slow motion and 4K/60P streaming via USB-C. F-Log2 allows video recording with an expanded 13+ stops dynamic range, offering greater tonal range for post-production flexibility. Additionally, when combined with compatible devices like ATOMOS HDMI or Blackmagic Design Video Assist 12G, the X-S20 enables RAW video output in resolutions up to 6.2K and frame rates up to 29.97fps. The camera features a 3.5mm microphone/headphone jack for enhanced audio compatibility. Introducing the new Vlog Mode, the X-S20 streamlines vlog production.

Convenient Connectivity and Live Streaming:
With a USB-Type C cable, the X-S20 can function as a webcam when connected to a computer, eliminating the need for additional software. Content creators can utilize OBS Studio to stream 4K/60P video directly from the camera to their preferred online platforms. Even during live streaming or online meetings, users can access the camera’s Film Simulation modes for a distinctive film-like aesthetic. Image settings can be adjusted in real-time while the camera is connected to a computer.
