Frauscher x Porsche 850 Fantom Air Electric Sports Boat

In a historic partnership, renowned sports car manufacturer Porsche and Frauscher Shipyard have officially introduced the world to the future of aquatic recreation with the unveiling of the Frauscher x Porsche 850 Fantom Air. This revolutionary electric sports boat combines Porsche’s cutting-edge electric drive technology, as seen in the upcoming all-electric Porsche Macan, with the sleek design and craftsmanship of Frauscher Shipyard. The presentation of the first production model on the picturesque Lake Garda, Italy, allowed international media and enthusiasts to experience the exceptional performance and luxury this collaborative effort has to offer.

Detlev von Platen, Member of the Board of Management for Sales and Marketing at Porsche AG, expressed his excitement during the event, stating, “This boat is the result of a great collaboration between two passionate companies with a strong tradition and a high standard of innovation. The eFantom offers everything that Frauscher and Porsche products have always promised: outstanding performance and luxurious experiences, the highest quality, and exclusive, timeless design.”

Powerful E-Performance and Four Driving Modes

Porsche’s renowned drive technology designed for road vehicles has been adapted and enhanced for marine use in the Frauscher x Porsche 850 Fantom Air. This includes a state-of-the-art permanently excited synchronous electric motor (PSM) with a peak power of 400 kW and a lithium-ion battery with a gross capacity of 100 kWh, both derived from the upcoming Porsche Macan’s Premium Platform Electric (PPE). The electric motor is located at the rear of the boat, with controls housed in a waterproof box bearing the Porsche logo. The power is transmitted to the marine Z-drive via a shaft, offering excellent handling and performance even in waves.

The eFantom offers four pre-programmed driving modes to suit various situations: Docking, Range, Sport, and Sport Plus. These modes adjust throttle response and speed limits, making it versatile for different scenarios, including harbor driving, cruising, and high-speed travel.

The optimum cruising speed is 41 km/h (22 knots), allowing for approximately one hour of cruising or about 45 kilometers on a single battery charge. At hull speed, the boat can cover over 100 kilometers. In Sport Plus mode, it can reach a top speed of 85 km/h (46 knots), providing a two to three-hour journey time depending on the driving profile. Stefan Frauscher, Managing Director of Frauscher Shipyard, emphasized that “this boat is a real milestone in the industry. The electric version of the Fantom Air outperforms its internal combustion engine counterpart in all driving characteristics, such as top speed, acceleration, and handling while remaining locally emission-free.”

Rapid Charging and Charging Options

The Frauscher x Porsche 850 Fantom Air boasts Porsche’s 800-volt technology, allowing for ultra-fast charging of over 250 kW at DC fast-charging stations. Under ideal conditions, the battery can be charged from 10% state of charge (SoC) to 80% in under 30 minutes. The boat also supports AC charging at conventional household and high-voltage sockets, making it a practical choice for most ports. Standard equipment includes an 11-kW AC charger, with charging ports conveniently located on the front side of the left bench.

Porsche Design Signature and Luxury Features

Studio F. A. Porsche was responsible for the boat’s helmstand design, featuring a high-gloss black instrument panel behind a frameless tinted acrylic glass windscreen, reminiscent of the iconic Porsche 911. The helmstand’s winglet-shaped side ends serve as both a design element and practical grab handles. A Porsche-style steering wheel, resistant to saltwater, includes the classic start button to the left. The boat’s front seats, designed by Studio F. A. Porsche, offer lateral support and sport-inspired aesthetics, mirroring Porsche’s high E-Performance standards.

The Frauscher x Porsche 850 Fantom Air is based on the Frauscher 858 Fantom Air day cruiser, retaining its 8.67-meter length and 2.49-meter width to accommodate up to nine passengers. A swimming platform at the rear leads to a spacious lounge area with two sunbathing pads, and a central aisle connects to the helm and cockpit. The boat comes with two folding bimini tops, an advanced audio system with Bluetooth and WiFi connectivity, a 12-inch multi-information display with an echo sounder and chart plotter, a bow thruster for simplified mooring, and an electric stainless steel anchor.

Customers can personalize their boat’s colors, with the full range of Porsche’s vehicle color options available.

The official world premiere of the Frauscher x Porsche 850 Fantom Air is set for January 2024 at the “boot” trade fair in Düsseldorf. Porsche and Frauscher plan to launch an exclusive first edition of 25 units, available for order starting at €561,700 net.
