DOXA SUB 300T Clive Cussler Edition

DOXA, the renowned watch brand, is announced its latest timepiece, the SUB 300T Clive Cussler Edition, in collaboration with Dirk Cussler, the son of the legendary author, diver, and underwater explorer, Clive Cussler. This extraordinary watch serves as a homage to Clive Cussler, celebrating his remarkable contributions to the diving community.

Remaining true to the distinctive style of the SUB 300T collection, the Clive Cussler Edition incorporates several features that will captivate both DOXA enthusiasts and admirers of Clive Cussler’s work. The standout element of this timepiece is its dial, adorned with a vintage compass design, symbolizing the spirit of audacious exploration that defined Cussler’s life. The aged steel effect applied to the watch case and bracelet evokes the allure of vintage tool watches commonly associated with the adventurers portrayed in Cussler’s novels. Each watch is discreetly engraved with a unique number on the side of the bezel, and the edition subtly commemorates Clive Cussler’s birthday with the dates 7, 15, and 31 highlighted in red on the dial.

Clive Cussler, an American adventure novelist, and marine archaeologist, grew up in Alhambra, California, and served in the Air Force during the Korean War. Despite starting his career in advertising as a copywriter and creative director, Cussler’s passion for writing novels led him to leave his promising advertising path. To support his writing aspirations, he took a part-time job at a dive shop. It was during this time, upon securing a publishing deal, that Cussler received a gift from the shop owner—a distinctive orange dial DOXA SUB 300T watch, which would become an integral part of both his own life and that of his fictional protagonist.

Dirk Pitt, the protagonist of Cussler’s novels, made his debut in “The Mediterranean Caper,” the first book in the popular series. Pitt, named after Clive Cussler’s son, embarked on a series of thrilling adventures chronicled throughout the books, which continue to captivate readers today. Some of Cussler’s novels, such as “Raise the Titanic!” and “Sahara,” were even adapted into movies. Both Cussler and Pitt shared commonalities, including their service in the Air Force and their affinity for wearing the DOXA SUB 300T timepiece.

The DOXA SUB 300T watch makes numerous appearances throughout Cussler’s novels, with detailed descriptions highlighting its presence. In “Iceberg,” Pitt glances at his DOXA watch, remarking on its luminous dial. In “Trojan Odyssey,” Pitt passes down his watch to his son, Dirk Jr., with a poignant description emphasizing its significance in their isolated underwater habitat. The orange-faced DOXA dive watch given to him by his father becomes a cherished heirloom.

The success of Cussler’s novels allowed him to pursue his passion for marine archaeology, leading to the establishment of the National Underwater and Marine Agency (NUMA), an organization prominently featured in Pitt’s adventures. As a tribute to Cussler’s enduring legacy, a portion of the proceeds from the Clive Cussler Edition will be donated to NUMA. Furthermore, the case of the SUB 300T Clive Cussler Edition proudly bears the engravings of shipwrecks and historical artifacts discovered or surveyed by NUMA until 2022.

In 1967, DOXA made a profound impact on the diving community with the introduction of the original SUB 300T. This pioneering timepiece revolutionized the way divers approached their underwater excursions. The standout feature was the patented rotating bezel, which not only included an elapsed time ring but also introduced the ingenious No Decompression Bezel. This innovative addition allowed divers to quickly ascertain the permissible time for each depth, enabling them to plan their dives and ascend without the need for time-consuming decompression stops. DOXA’s commitment to safety and efficiency was clearly evident in this groundbreaking design.

With a unique No Decompression Bezel, the SUB 300T allowed divers to determine their permitted time at various depths, eliminating the need for time-consuming decompression stops during ascent. Coupled with its vibrant orange dial, rigorously tested for optimum legibility underwater, this timepiece quickly gained recognition as a game-changer in the diving watch industry. To further enhance its capabilities for saturation diving, DOXA later incorporated a gas escape valve (GEV) into their watches, a milestone achievement introduced in 1969. The Clive Cussler Edition pays homage to this rich heritage, embodying all these exceptional features, making it the ultimate tool watch for adventurers.

Paying tribute to DOXA’s storied history, the Clive Cussler Edition combines all the exceptional features that made the SUB 300T an iconic dive watch. This limited-edition timepiece captures the spirit of adventure, inspired by Clive Cussler, the renowned author, and underwater explorer. With its patented rotating bezel, No Decompression Bezel, vibrant orange dial, and gas escape valve, the Clive Cussler Edition is the epitome of a true tool watch, capable of withstanding the most demanding underwater expeditions.
