Casio Computer Co., Ltd. has introduced two new watches to their G-SHOCK Recrystallized series in honor of the 40th anniversary of the G-SHOCK brand. The GMW-B5000PS and GMW-B5000PG are made with an innovative deep-layer hardening process on stainless steel, making them even tougher than their predecessors.
The new models are based on the GMW-B5000D, which replicates the iconic shape of the original DW-5000C G-SHOCK. The exterior components of both the GMW-B5000PS and GMW-B5000PG, such as the bezel and band, are crafted from extremely hard stainless steel. The deep-layer hardening process developed by Casio for this collection has made the material approximately three times harder than ordinary stainless steel. The stainless steel is heat-treated and recrystallized to create crystalline patterns against a matte texture, providing a rugged appearance of fine metal fragments scattered on the surface. Each component features a unique crystalline grain, offering subtle differences in pattern, color, and luster for every watch.
The GMW-B5000PS comes in silver while the GMW-B5000PG is gold ion-plated. Both models feature a 40th-anniversary logo on the case back, the words “SINCE 1983” on the dial, and a star on the Mode button located on the lower left side of the case.
In addition to the GMW-B5000PS and GMW-B5000PG, Casio has also released the DW-5040PG. This model features a dial engraved with the words “PROJECT TEAM ‘Tough,'” which is the name of the team that developed the first G-SHOCK. The deep-layer hardening process is applied to the case back, buckle, band loop, and other metal components of the watch. Biomass plastics are utilized in the bezel and band.
These new G-SHOCK Recrystallized watches represent another step forward in the ongoing evolution of the G-SHOCK line, which started back in 1983. The deep-layer hardening process for stainless steel and the recrystallization technique add a unique design element that sets these watches apart.
