Adidas x Yohji Yamamoto

Adidas and Yohji Yamamoto have recently unveiled their latest collaboration, Y-3 Atelier, which promises to prioritize craftsmanship, skill, and dedication in their production. The two have now introduced the first footwear offering from this line, the Y-3 ITOGO, which boasts of being a pinnacle expression of contemporary footwear.

What sets the Y-3 ITOGO apart from other footwear is its minimalist design that comprises only five components, each labeled with a number. These five components include elastic straps, a knitted upper, a boost midsole, a rubber cupsole, and thread. The shoes are assembled using a hand-stitched process that forgoes the use of glue, allowing the silhouette to be completely dismantled if the owner decides to cut the threads.

This innovative approach to assembly aims to challenge the conventional lifecycle of footwear. The shoes’ name, Y-3 ITOGO, is a combination of two Japanese words, “Ito,” meaning thread, and “Go,” meaning five, which nods to its five-component design.

With the Y-3 ITOGO, Adidas and Yohji Yamamoto aim to encourage consumers to think beyond the norm and embrace innovation in footwear design. The Y-3 ITOGO is a bold and daring expression of contemporary footwear, demonstrating Adidas and Yamamoto’s commitment to craftsmanship, quality, and innovation.
